Dartmouth and Princeton vs. MM Women's Lacrosse Game

Hi Everyone!
My cousin, Elizabeth George, and I are writing on behalf of the Dartmouth and Princeton Women’s Lacrosse teams to raise money for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), an organization that is very important to our family. In November of 2016, my dad and Elizabeth’s uncle, Jenkins Marshall, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. Over the course of the past two years, he has undergone a stem-cell transplant and multiple rounds of chemo and radiation therapies. On April 6th, 2019, Dartmouth is hosting Princeton in our annual Ivy-League battle. Elizabeth and I saw this game as a special opportunity for both teams to play for something greater than the game of lacrosse, ourselves and our schools. Before facing each other on the field, Elizabeth and I will be joining forces and working together with our teams to support this cause.

Our first effort came this past fall, when players from both teams travelled to New York for a weekend and participated in the MMRF 5k. This was a very special moment for our teams and our family, because we got the chance to see how our efforts effect patients battling MM.

For those of you unfamiliar with Multiple Myeloma, it is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, it has one of the lowest five-year survival rates of all cancers. However, the statistics are far from stagnant and there is progress being made! In the past decade alone, the FDA has approved ten new treatments. The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world and they are on an unparalleled track to finding a cure for this disease.

The Dartmouth vs. Princeton lacrosse game is a very important game in the Ivy League and in our family. Apart from Elizabeth and me, we have four Princeton alumni and five Dartmouth alumni in our family. Most importantly, my dad is a Dartmouth Lacrosse alum (Class of ’84), and the most passionate, committed, and proud one we know. The rivalry on the field and in the stands will be fun and intense, but the love and respect among family and friends off the field means so much more. We are very excited for this opportunity to raise awareness for this disease, while supporting my dad and the MMRF. No matter which team you are rooting for on the lacrosse field, let’s join together to defeat Multiple Myeloma! Our goal is to raise $30,000 by game day.

Thank you & all the best,
Claire Marshall and Elizabeth George
