Welcome to Meters for Myeloma

Matthew Marshall

Matthew Marshall

In partnership with the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, and for the second year in a row, Fairfield Rowing will be hosting an independent event called the Meters for Myeloma 5K in memory of former assistant coach, Matt Labine, who lost his battle with Multiple Myeloma in early September of 2017 and in honor of Jo Hannafin, the wife of former coach John Brisson.

Matt was a walk-on rower at Yale, a two time member of the U.S. National Rowing team, made it to the finals in the 1980 and 1984 Olympic trials, and started coaching rowing in 2010. Between 2014 and 2016, Matt played an essential role in Fairfield's success, most notably, coaching the Varsity 4+ that won gold at the MAAC Championship in the Spring of 2016.

Dr. Hannafin is currently an Attending Orthopedic Surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery and a Team Physician for the U.S. Rowing Team. She was a silver medalist in the lightweight double at the 1984 World Rowing Championships, a three-time gold medalist at the U.S. National Rowing Championship, and is now the Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the National Rowing Foundation.

The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation is dedicated to researching and pursuing innovative means to treat this disease, with the goal to extend the lives of current patients and eventually find a cure for all.

Thank you!
