Multiple Myeloma Jello Wrestling Fundraiser

Sydney Stinson

For the fourth year in a row, I have partnered with the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) in hosting an event to raise critical funds for the study of this cancer. My mother, Deborah Roth, lost her battle two years ago, but my family is committed to raising awareness and funds to accelerate finding a cure for multiple myeloma!

Many people may be unaware that some cancers are curable, while others are not. Multiple myeloma is currently incurable and that is why helping to fund the MMRF and its research efforts are so critical. When my mother was diagnosed in 2009, she was very honest with herself and her family that she would eventually succumb to this cancer. Fortunately, we were blessed with 6 more years with her and that was directly related to the development of new treatments. When it comes to multiple myeloma, my understanding is that, your body will fight the good fight for as long as it can with a specific treatment plan until eventually those treatments become less effective. A different treatment is then tried until the options are exhausted. Here is where the development of new treatments through research becomes so important: after 6 years, treatments were no longer effective for my mom and she made the brave decision to forego any new treatments or clinical trials. It takes a lot of strength to choose such a thing and I do not know if I would be strong enough to make that decision. Ultimately, I hope that through everyone's effort, we can allow people more time before having to make such a choice. Something so small can make a big difference in a person's life!

Although my mother's body weakened, her spirit began to strengthen. And when her spirit grew too large, she departed from her Mother Earth. Walked on, as she would say. So in honor of her spirit and the many others that have had to battle, we want to celebrate life! If my mom was willing to donate her body, I am willing to donate my time, money, and own spirit to her cause! With that, I hope you can join us at...

Please take a look at the information below that was put together by those at the MMRF to see how your generosity truly makes a difference!

Funds raised through MMRF events have helped to:
• Nearly triple patient survival
• Deliver ten new treatments in a decade
• Launch over 60 new clinical trials

The MMRF was established in 1998 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by twin sisters Karen Andrews and Kathy Giusti, soon after Kathy's diagnosis with multiple myeloma. The mission of the MMRF is to relentlessly pursue innovative means that accelerate the development of next-generation multiple myeloma treatments to extend the lives of patients and lead to a cure. The MMRF, along with its research and medical industry partners, has fueled more studies, initiated more trials, developed more treatments, introduced more medicines, and have had a far greater impact than any other organization on myeloma.

The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. Nearly 90% of the MMRF total budget goes directly towards research and related programming. The MMRF has received the “Best in America” Seal of Excellence from the Independent Charities of America and Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past twelve years in a row. The MMRF has also been recognized by Philanthropedia as one of 16 expert-identified, high-impact nonprofits in the field of cancer."

While the MMRF has made enormous progress, there is so much more to be done and here's how you can help. Please join me to fight multiple myeloma, as your donation will have a meaningful impact on the lives of thousands of patients and their families!

Thank you!
